Helping those Affected by the California Wildfires
2018 was a devastating year with the California Fires. In fact, it was the most destructive and deadliest wildfire season on record in California. Last year, 8,434 fires burned at least 1,890,438 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Around 100 people lost their lives and thousands of people are dealing with heartbreaking devastation.
We know the “season of giving” just past, but it’s always a good time to give to those in need. Start your year off on the right foot by considering donating to help those affected by the wildfires. The Naumann Law Firm has contributed to the below charities to help in the recovery and rebuilding of the affected neighborhoods.

We also want to share some information and tips with you on fire preparedness. These tips come from Cal Fire to help give your family the best chance of surviving a wildfire by evacuating early. In advance, you want to make an evacuation checklist. You want to leave as soon as an evacuation is called by fire officials. You don’t want to get caught in the smoke or bad traffic. Try to evacuate early.
- Review your Evacuation Checklist.
- Ensure your Emergency Supply Kit is in your vehicle.
- Cover up to protect against heat and flying embers. Wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, heavy shoes/boots, cap, dry bandanna for face cover, goggles or glasses. 100% cotton is preferable.
- Locate your pets and take them with you.
To try and protect your home and help it possible survive the wildfire, here are a few preventative things you can do:
- Gather flammable items from the exterior of the house and bring them inside.
- Turn off propane tanks.
- Don’t leave water running or sprinklers on.
- Leave your outside lights on so firefighters can see your home.
Our hope is you never have to experience an evacuation, but it’s always a good thing to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. For more wildfire safety tips, visit http://www.readyforwildfire.org/docs/files/File/calfire_go_brochure_LINOweb.pdf.
