Status of Southern California County Superior Courts
Our team at The Naumann Law Firm wants to provide you with an update on the status of the local Southern California County Superior Courts. With Governor Newsom’s “Stay at Home” orders, decisions are changing daily, and they affect all of us.
On March 16th, the Superior Court of California and all local jurisdictions suspended services until April 3rd. At this time, it was the arguably the peak of uncertainty. There are 2,972 civil cases needing to be rescheduled once the Court re-opens. Rescheduling’s would be done on a case by case basis by each presiding Judge.
On March 28th, The Judicial Council approved temporary emergency measures, including, “…use of technology, when possible, to conduct judicial proceedings and court operations remotely.”
On April 3rd, the Court had started to test using video conferencing technology to conduct hearings. As of this writing, it is unclear to what extent video conferencing will be used.
County Courts have tentatively set their own “re-opening” dates:
- County of San Diego Superior Court – May 4th.
- County of Orange Superior Court – April 27th.
- County of Los Angeles Superior Court – May 16th.
- County of Riverside Superior Court – May 4th.
The Court is treating these days as Court holidays. Unfortunately, this means that there have been no hearings or filings for an extended period. We continue to file documents with the Court for our pending cases, but with the Court closed, they are not being reviewed.
