Update on the Re-Opening of San Diego Superior Court
Our team at The Naumann Law Firm wants to provide you with an update on the re-opening of San Diego Superior Court. Since our last update, the Court has continued to increase services available to the public. Below we highlight a few key points from the most recent update and what it means to our clients and cases.
BACKGROUND
On March 17, the San Diego Superior Court closed for all non-emergency services. On May 26, the Court resumed most business operations.
“Incredible behind-the-scenes work has been done throughout the Court’s closure with staff and justice partners working tirelessly to enable remote work that has never before been a part of the Court’s processes,” said San Diego Superior Court Presiding Judge Lorna Alksne. “Our teams have navigated uncharted territories and found workable solutions for us to get back to a level of normal operations without having large numbers of people coming into the courthouses.”
COURT APPEARANCES
Rescheduling notices are in progress to be sent to involved parties for more than 87,000 hearings. Most of those hearings will be handled remotely via video or telephone conference.
FILINGS
Filings continue to be done electronically. The Court has been working diligently to process all filings in a timely manner. We have not experienced any issues with our cases.
JURY TRIALS
The San Diego Superior Court plans to resume jury trials beginning on October 13 with jurors summoned beginning on October 9.
