Labor Shortages Could Lead to Construction Defects
Contractors and builders are continuing construction projects as the nation plods a labor shortage. With a lack of skilled workers, it is not hard for workmanship issues to arise that could lead to construction defects. To meet project demands, it’s possible builders and contractors are hiring unskilled workers or overworking crews.
“We’re still seeing come conflicting signals in the market,” Jonathan Kanarek, managing director at BuildFax, said in a report the property data company released. “While home-builder confidence is high, new construction has slowed in recent months as acute labor shortages and expensive building material costs continue to strain the industry.”
Contractors are very much aware of their demand. Some may take on too many jobs and end up rushing to keep up with their schedules. The proper oversight could be lacking. Additionally, they may not be as willing to remedy any issues as they have so much work lined up.
Our firm receives calls weekly about improper workmanship performed by contractors. This ranges from individual jobs like HVAC all the way through full development of a condominium project or custom home.
Many times, contractors are paying their labor in cash, under the table – this can also lead to unskilled labor or even unlicensed workers, working on your home.
